2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro: An Affordable Off-Road Truck

The 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro may be just one of the off-road TRD Pro options available from the automotive manufacturer this year, but it is also the one that provides the best value.

The TRD Pro option is a new addition, and you can combine it with the Tacoma, Tundra, or 4Runner, giving a wide range of options. When it comes down to your budget, however, the Tacoma will be the most affordable by far.

Best Off-Road Value

Any of the three TRD Pro choices will do an amazing job taking you on off-road adventures, but the 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro has the designation of being the most affordable of these. In fact, it tends to come in at around $10,000 less than the 4Runner or Tundra TRD Pros, making it the perfect balance of affordability and off-road function. The price is somewhere in the mid- to low $30K range, so it is very affordable, even when compared with the competition from other auto manufacturers.

Tacoma Pro Specifics

The TRD aspect of the Tacoma TRD Pro comes from the TRD Bilstein shocks that include remote dampers and work well with the lower rate of the soft springs for smoother handling on rough roads. There is also a TRD cat-back exhaust. Other features of this Pro series include a 2-inch lift from the springs, an extra 1.5 to 1.75 inches of added room on each end, 16-inch BF Goodrich all-terrain KO tires, and the standard front skid plate.

The Tacoma TRD Pro runs on a 4-liter V-6 engine that can be combined with a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission good for 266 pound-feet of torque. It is able to get to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds and do a quarter-mile in 15.9 seconds. The engine and associated capabilities are based on the long history of TRD in the world of racing, dating back to the 1950s.

Smooth Ride

The reason that the 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro does so well off-road is more than just the Bilstein shocks and special springs. The wheelbase is 127.4 or 140.6 inches (depending on the truck bed), and this allows even larger holes in the road to pale to insignificance.
