Running for a cause is a great way to stay in shape and do some good in the community around you at the same time. Killeen has a number of 5K races that get you a lot more than just a T-shirt – like, for example, the satisfaction of doing your part to benefit a cause you believe in. One of these races is the 2nd Annual PTSD Awareness 5K, set for Saturday, June 22. Initiated to help shine a spotlight on veterans and others who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, this 5K is sponsored by the Delta Phi Chi Military Sorority.

The race will begin at the Killeen Community Event Center, located at 2201 East Veterans Memorial Boulevard, Killeen, TX 46502. You can register online for just $20. On the day of the event, registration will take place from 7 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. You’ll be eligible for great prizes and giveaways at this fun and rewarding event. Come out and support your family, friends, and others struggling with PTSD.
PTSD and Veterans
Veterans are at a high risk of developing PTSD, with as many as 20% of combat veterans being affected by the mental illness. These invisible wounds often go untreated, which inevitably leads to a worsening of the condition. The Delta Phi Chi Military Sorority is doing its part to help by sponsoring this 5K, from which 80% of proceeds will go directly to the local Department of Veterans Affairs PTSD Clinics as well as agencies working with Veterans for PTSD Awareness and Research.
