Toyota announces 10 millionth sale of the Toyota Camry

Do you remember when Camrys looked like this?

Toyota announced today that the Toyota Camry, the best selling vehicle in America for the past 11 years, has sold over 10 million models in the United States. The Toyota Camry, now in its seventh generation, was introduced to the US market in 1983. Toyota of Killeen is proud to be a small part of those 10 million Camrys and would love for you to be part of the next 10 million. The Camry name was based on the Japanese word kanmuri, meaning “crown”, so its no surprise that the Camry is the king of the king of the road in Killeen.

The Camry is the flagship model for Toyota, representing 20% of all the Toyota vehicles sold in the US. 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of the Toyota Camry and amazingly there are still 773 of those 1983 Camrys still on the road. In that first year Toyota sold 52,651 Camrys. Last year, we helped Toyota achieve Camry sales of over 400,000 vehicles. We continue to offer the best selling Camry to our Killeen customers and hope they will still be on the road 30 years from now.

“We couldn’t be more excited about Camry’s 10 millionth sale in the U.S.,” said Bob Carter, senior vice president of automotive operations of Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc.  “With the support of so many loyal customers, Camry has truly become part of the country’s fiber.  For seven generations, Toyota dealers have also been instrumental in getting Americans behind the wheel of a Camry.  Camry is definitely helping Toyota Go Places.”

The Camry, like the parent company, has become more American since its 1983 introduction. In fact, just last year the Camry was named the Most American Made Vehicle by Cars.com. Most new Camrys in America were assembled at the Toyota Camry plant in Kentucky. Their excellent work was recently rewarded when J.D. Power and Associates ranked the 2013 Camry  first in the midsize category in its 2013 Initial Quality Study. Toyota estimates that there are approximately 6.4 millions Camrys on the road today. If you’d like to get yourself a piece of the quality, reliability and durability that the Camry represents come visit us at Toyota of Killeen today.
